Serra earned her bachelor’s in Chemistry before transitioning her focus to formulation sciences. She continued her academic journey by obtaining a Master’s in Science from the Pharmaceutical Technology Department at the University of Ege in Turkey. During this time, she dedicated six months to research at the University of Pavia, focusing on developing polymeric micelles.
Her educational journey culminated in a doctoral research project where she explored combined formulations in a joint program with the University Paris Saclay. Specifically, she investigated cationic lipid nanoparticles complexed with anti-TNF alpha siRNA encapsulated an anti-inflammatory drug to create a novel combined therapy approach.
Transitioning into the industry, Serra began her career in 2021 as a Field Application Scientist, in the Nanomedicine Unit at Cytiva, previously known as Precision NanoSystems. In this role, she consulted with research groups on drug product production, with a primary focus on lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). Her responsibilities included teaching about critical quality attributes of nanoparticles and assisting with the scale-up process.
Since June 2024 Serra serves as a Subject Matter Expert at CordenPharma Full Service for GMP CDMO leveraging her expertise to contribute to pharmaceutical advancements.
